Sheri and Ryan married on April 21st 2017. Their wedding was a lovely burgundy and wine themed celebration. Sheri spent so much time planning the perfect wedding and did most of the decorations! They held their ceremony outside on a beautiful day. Guests enjoyed cocktails and yard games while the couple took photos. Then at the reception the Bride + Groom surprised all their guests with a choreographed dance! We absolutely loved working with this couple and it was wonderful to work with so many of our preferred vendors!
It was such a joy working with Sheri + Ryan and we are wishing them all the happiness in the world!
Karen and Guadalupe married on April 8th 2016. Their wedding celebration was an amazing day filled with love and laughter and so many surprises! The Brides surprised their friends and families with their first dance, a Mariachi band and THEN we shot off confetti cannons onto the dance floor! Guadalupe also surprised Karen with a 2nd suit for the reception!
As Wedding Planners and Wedding Officiants, we visit many venues. But very few become our favorite. La Cour Venue in McKinney has become a favorite for all of us at Occasions. Not only is La Cour beautiful, but Amy is absolutely amazing! La Cour is a venue where you don’t need a lot to make it beautiful. It’s already beautiful, as you will see from the pictures below. There are so many different options with where to hold your ceremony and your reception. We have done several weddings at La Cour – our couples always LOVE the venue and the end result!
Matt & Deena hired us as their Wedding Planner. First thing first – We need a venue! We set up a meeting at La Cour (of course they fell in love) but wanted to tour a few more venues. In the end, they chose La Cour. Their wedding was a small intimate wedding with family and friends and the day was spectacular!
On August 15th 2015 I had my first meeting with Maegan and Revin. We talked about their vision and all things wedding. That night they emailed me and said they were ready to sign their contract and reserve our services for their wedding. We immediately went to work looking for the perfect venue, trying to pin down the date. I set up several venue tours. Our first stop was Paradise Cove at Lake Grapevine. When I called the venue the owner Tina (super sweet lady) informed me they were under a bit of construction and I assured her that was no problem. I arrived at the venue earlier than Maegan & Revin (mostly because I gave them the wrong address! LOL) When I arrived and met Tina, I realized they were more than under a little construction….. They had been flooded and the building was completely gutted. Just studs and concrete flooring. I started to panic! What are my clients going to think?! Once they arrived I rushed to their car to inform them that the building was gutted due to the flood. They still wanted to tour the property. They immediately fell in love with Paradise Cove. Tina assured us that it would be spectacular come their wedding date, November 4th, 2016. We toured other venues but they still were set on having their wedding at Paradise Cove.
Tina at Paradise Cove definitely kept her promise! The venue was more beautiful than we could have ever imagined. Maegan & Revin were so happy with their choice & would not have changed the location for anything. Thank you Tina for going above and beyond for this sweet couple!
Once the venue was booked we moved on to photography. We had a bit of trouble here. We found a photographer that thought would be a great fit. Well, not so much! After their engagement photos Maegan called and said that she was so upset over the pictures and she was afraid that would happen also with the wedding photos. I recommended her to Justin Yoder with Justin Yoder Studios. Once they saw his work, they were sold! They took new engagement photos which they loved & the wedding day photos were AMAZING!
As you can see from the photos on this blog, Justin is amazing! Thank you Justin for all your amazing and hard work!
So now, we had a date, venue and photographer. It was time to find a DJ to bring the reception to life! I recommended Maegan and Revin to Melody & Memories Entertainment. Melody was their DJ and the wedding ceremony music was beautiful & flawless. Off to the reception! Melody kept the party going! Everyone was having a great time! She even kept the secret of the surprise Groomsmen dance! Which was epic!
If you’re in the market for a DJ, give Melody & Memories a call!
Now onto the tasty! We needed a cake! I instantly recommended Shauntay with Thirsty Cupcake! We met for a tasting and they designed their cake & enjoyed all the samples, which were delicious!! On wedding day EVERYONE was in love with these beautiful cakes!
The Escort board was designed and printed by Moments Pro Studio. Maegan & Revin really didn’t know exactly what they wanted. I emailed Karen & Rebecca at Moments Pro and let them know it was a “fall” wedding & a list of names and tables. OH MY GOSH! The escort board was PERFECT! If you need print work, photography or design get ahold of this amazing mother – daughter team! Also, they did this board the week of the wedding!
Wedding Planner: Blake Nash Assistant Coordinator: Kara O’Briant with Occasions
November 4th 2016 will always be one of my personal favorites. I never could have imagined I would be gaining two life long friends! But I am so happy I did! Planning this wedding was such a joy! Revin & Maegan were definitely made for each other.
Occasions Event Design is owned and operated by Blake Nash. He has been serving the Dallas – Fort Worth area since 2013. We wanted to share a little about him.
What were you doing before Occasions?
I have always had a desire to help people! I just wanted to bring joy to them. I started working in a long term care facility at the age of 18. Those residents brought so much joy to my life and I hope I brought a little to them. I then went off to manage a 6 bed ICF MH/MR group home. When I moved to Dallas in 2012, I worked for a home health care company. I started officiating weddings on the weekend’s and well, the rest is history. This is what I am supposed to be doing!
What about you surprises people?
Probably the fact that I am so young. Well, was. I started my first business when I was 18. I opened up a thrift store in Burkburnett. Well I guess technically that was my second business. I also had a lawn service from the age of 12-15. At 23 I started Weddings By Blake, now known as Occasions Event Design. I have always wanted to own my own business, which I think stemmed from my granny owning her own restaurant and my grandfather owning his own business!
What makes Occasions different from other vendors?
That is a great question! I think what sets us most apart from other vendors is our customer service. We LOVE people. We want to help them anyway we can. We are also very responsive. We typically respond to calls and emails within minutes. Planning a wedding can be very stressful and we do our best to get back with you asap. Lastly, we don’t just think of our customers as customers. They become our friends & family. We love staying in touch with past couples!
Why did you change the name from Weddings By Blake to Occasions Event Design?
After I was able to leave my full time job at the home health care company, I started getting more weddings than I could do alone. I wanted to help as many couples as possible. I started bringing on Officiants who had the same love for people and weddings as I did. I then brought on Event Planning and Coordination. It just seemed fitting that we change our name to represent what our company was evolving into.
What keeps you busy outside of weddings?
My family and dogs. My partner Zach and I have 5 dogs! Yes, 5! We have 1 boy, Jasper and 4 girls, Gretchen, Sister, Roxie and Little Bit! We were blessed when a friend’s dog had puppies in 2013! We instantly chose Jasper! When he was finally old enough for us to take, we went to pick him up and he was laying in a corner curled up with his sister. Well, we had to take her too obviously! So we named her Gretchen! In 2014 a friend posted online that she had found puppies under her porch, and they were rottweilers. We had to have one! They brought her to us and she was covered in fleas and on the verge of death. We took her to the vet the next day and now she’s as healthy as can be! In 2015 our friend needed us to watch her dog, Sister for a while. Well we ended up falling in love with her and asked if we could keep her and they said yes! Sister is actually Jasper & Gretchen’s birth mother. This past year (2016) I was working on a furniture project in the garage and I heard this fierce little bark! I looked up and there was this dirtiest little dog I had ever seen! Again, another dog sick and covered in fleas. I could tell she had been mistreated. Now she is a sassy little brat! So as you can imagine, 5 dogs take a lot of time and work but we love every minute of it. Well, almost every minute. We also love spending time with our families & friends and binge watching our favorite shows on Netflix.
